The topic for this meeting is: Social Media & Mobile Device Forensics
Dr. Manes & Mr. Watson will be discussing social media and cell phone forensics. It will include discussion on the latest technology to perform mobile device forensics, what can be retrieved, mobility usage reports, and other location tracking capabilities. Dr. Manes & Mr. Watson will also be discussing the current e-discovery issues surrounding social media. They will discuss the preservation of such information, special items to note when processing and producing such information, and more.

About the speakers:
Dr. Gavin Manes is a nationally recognized expert in e-discovery and digital forensics. He is currently the CEO of Avansic, a firm that provides the legal, business, and government sectors with e-discovery, digital forensics, managed services, hosted online review, and expert services. Dr. Manes founded this Tulsa-based company in 2004 after receiving his PhD in Computer Science and serving as a professor at the University of Tulsa. There he led the creation of nationally recognized research efforts in digital forensics and telecommunications security. Dr. Manes has given hundreds of presentations to law firms, corporate officers, legal conferences and judges on the latest topics in e-discovery. He frequently publishes articles in peer-reviewed journals and whitepapers on e-discovery, security, and information technology. Dr. Manes has served as an expert witness for many legal proceedings through courtroom testimony, depositions and consulting with attorneys on data preservation issues. He has given hundreds of presentations to law firms, corporate officers, legal conferences and judges on the latest topics in e-discovery. Dr. Manes has briefed the White House, Department of the Interior, the National Security Council, and the Pentagon on computer security and forensics issues.
Mr. Lance Watson, Vice-President & Chief Information Officer at Avansic
Mr. Watson oversees all project management and laboratory operations. He is also responsible for oversight of all research and development as the company and evaluation of current and future computing needs. Mr. Watson also assists with the development of new technologies and solutions to the most pertinent problems in the e-discovery and digital forensics fields. Mr. Watson acts for an expert consultant and expert witness in the areas of digital forensics and e-discovery for Avansic. Watson received his Master of Science in Computer Science from TU where he focused on computer and network security research. He has earned five of the federal Committee on National Security Systems and the National Security Telecommunications and Information Systems Security Committee information assurance certifications, and keeps up-to-date on the latest developments in the technology field. Watson worked for eight years at Boston Communications Group where he helped develop and implement innovative software technologies for voicemail systems. He also assisted with the deployment of a broad range of prepaid wireless network services in North and South America and the Caribbean.
