Operation Safe Spaces is a task force assembled to lead and drive change.

Our mission? To cultivate safe spaces where mutual respect flourishes, guided by education, heightened awareness and actionable protocols. Through OSS, we're setting new standards with:

  • Educational Programs to enlighten and empower
  • Reporting Infrastructure that ensures voices are heard
  • Resource Allocation to support our mission’s heart
  • Media Press Kits and Initiatives to spread our message far and wide
  • Conference Certification Protocols and Guidelines to Ensure Safe Spaces in all professional gatherings

As a community, every step we take toward fostering respect and safety is a step toward a more inclusive and empowering future for everyone. OSS strives to create a culture where every conference, meeting, event and workplace can be a zone of safety and respect.

Working Groups

Working groups are specialized teams within the task force that focus on specific issues or tasks. They bring together experts or stakeholders to collaborate, develop recommendations and implement solutions related to their area of focus, contributing to the task force’s broader goals.

Allies Working Group

Co-Chairs: Jared Crafton and Florinda Baldridge

This group will engage with industry leaders to bolster initiatives for safe conference settings through training, advocacy and resource development. The AWG will work with the Events Liaise Working Group to forge industry alliances in support of our mission.

Events Liaise

Co-Chairs: Marla Crawford and Joy Heath Rush

The mission of the Events Liaise Working Group is to facilitate communication between and among the OSS Task Force and legal event operators, share best practices and discuss opportunities to enhance safety and inclusivity.

Public Relations and Marketing

Co-Chairs: Maribel Rivera and Amy Juers, MBA

The PR committee plays a crucial role in shaping how the organization is perceived by the public and maintaining positive relationships with various media representatives. Our efforts contribute to leveraging PR strategies and tactics to build trust, credibility and support for the organization’s goals and initiatives.

Resource Aggregation and Reporting

Co-Chairs: Shimmy Messing and Rachel O'Shea

The mission of the Resource Aggregation/Reporting Working Group is to centralize available resources and establish consistent mechanisms for reporting harassment, ensuring actionable responses for our community members. Additionally, we strive to provide data-driven analyses to OSS teams, empowering them to make informed and efficient decisions.

Training and Education

Co-Chairs: Deeanna Fleener and Shana Pederson

The Education Working Group will conduct intentional and intersectional research and compile educational and training resources in support of the other working groups’ stated goals/needs to further their efforts. The working group can also serve as a liaison between other similarly positioned organizations that we find in the course of our research.
